Strange Forces of Nature

There are phenomena and undefinable events in our natural world that continue to pique our interest and stoke our deepest fears. Do the monstrously powerful earthquakes, that bring civilizations to their knees, have a human involved origin? How can a ball of energy, that passes through walls, be proven to exist but without any answer to how it is created? Are strange accounts of fish falling from the sky, or a seemingly endless darkness recorded in the 6th Century, be evidence of events that could happen again?
